Re: Green Hawaii Youth Conference Invitation

Green Hawaii Conferences is hosting “Green Hawaii Youth Conference” – a series of discussions on ways to involve more Kauai youth in sustainable activities on the island. Local experts in sustainability will help facilitate discussions in the areas of food and agriculture, renewable energy, and recycling, reusing, and reducing initiatives. The meetings take place at the Kauai Beach Resort Tuesday – Thursday, June 28-30^th 9:00 – 12 noon.

We are inviting your organization to attend to discuss your activities, programs and services. At the conference you will have the chance to share ideas and garner interest in your programs and services, and explore ways to collaborate with similar and dissimilar organizations to better support your current activities. In addition you will have the opportunity to collaborate with others in the development and successful completion of future programming regarding sustainable activities on the island. The conference will afford you the chance to network by developing both local and remote teams to support further your organization’s mission.

We will introduce the Humanitarian Sustainability Initiative, a world-wide web initiative that follows and supports sustainable initiatives around the globe with expertise and funding. At the conference you will learn about this internet based network. Recently a group of students from a Canadian school hosted a web conference on indigenous climate change with participants from Canada, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, Brazil, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, and Australia, and in early June, they hosted a sustainability career fair in their local community. Later this year, this school team will deploy to Haiti solar ovens and solar lanterns created by their students. We will discuss efforts like this and ways Hawaii organizations and youth can participate in remote teams and tap into local, national and international resources.

Who Should Attend?

People and programs servicing Hawaii’s youth and families, and any with interest in the care and wellbeing of our island generally such as education, sports, faith communities, healthcare and health industry, professionals, agriculture and farming, recycling, sanitation, interests in the quality and care of the ocean, renewable energies (solar, wind, hydro, etc), civil servants, and many, many others. We are gathering representatives from these varied professions and organizations to share what they are doing, and team with others to create new and ongoing sustainable projects.

As many of us already know Collaboration is key to securing funding from many grant sources. Furthermore, sustainability is the buzzword today within the funding community. Given the interest to bring Hawaii in general and Kauai in particular closer to 100% self-sustainability and the need for many of our Kauai programs and services to secure ongoing funding, spending a few hours at the Green Hawaii Youth Conference offers a creative and collaborative approach to address both.

Hence, if your program is in need of funding you should attend. If you care about the health and wellbeing of our island you should attend. It will be well worth your time.
